Northern Michigan Homebrewers Guild

November meeting minutes

Nov. 6, 2017

Discussions:

Charlevoix Brewing Co. brew day: Dec. 9, depart at 9 a.m. We’ll be renting a van that can accommodate 13 passengers, with Jon Throop driving. Passengers will have to chip in for the van rental, $20 or less each. You can bring homebrew in the van. We’ll have a sign-up sheet for the van. We’ll also have a vote for style of beer to brew that day on Charlevoix’s system. Nominees were Gruit, red flanders, braggot, Russian Imperial Stout, barley wine, sahti and pomegranate lambic.

Quarterly party: Will be held on a January weekend at Aaron Spangler’s house. We’ll look into renting a tent to have it outside. Aaron has an outside bar that seats 8. Craig and some friends will provide live music, and we may have a chili cook-off. Members can bring friends and family. Members are also encouraged to bring their own homebrew. Let Craig know if you’re bringing beer or food, so we’ll be able to put up a menu prior to the party.

Holiday party: Tentatively set for Dec. 30 at UBrew. Details to come.

Website: Chris said we’ll be changing the website around soon, switching from MemberPress to S2Member, which is a one-time fee of around $50 instead of a yearly fee like MemberPress. It will allow us to create public profiles on the site, among other improvements.

Social media: We were up to 65 followers on Instagram and 45 on Twitter. Please follow us if you already haven’t.

Attendance: 20.

New members: Bill and Mary Beth Sellers.
