Dec. 18, 2017 at Monkey Fist Brewing Company in Traverse City.

The meeting was well attended, with over 20 present.

Monkey Fist brewer Deven Larrance gave us a tour of the brewery, as well as samples of his small-batch saison aged in Blackberry wine barrels.

Discussions:

Taking over for Bruce for prizes: Brian Pugh (assisted by Bill Scott, James Cook).

Host homebrew competition? Volunteers: Randy, James, Brian. We’re exploring the possibility of getting club members BJCP certified so we can do our own contests all in house. Eric needs to find out how to start the BJCP process.

Pilsner glass for new club membership swag next year (by Clay Maas).

Quarterly party at Aaron Spangler’s house Jan. 13 with heated tents, three live bands. Volunteers for food: Alison Ronald (there was another one or two, but I didn’t see who all raised hands). Volunteers for beer: Chuck, Dan, James, Dan, Craig.

We’ll be setting up the next six month’s worth of meetings up shortly and trying to stay that far ahead. That’ll allow us to publicize them more in advance on social media and in the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

Four Leaf brewing in Clare is hosting homebrew competition.

Eric with Hoppy Bear Farm in Benzie County attended. They specialize in gruit, and he served up some as well as distributed a recipe handout.

Club discount at Ubrew is now up to 10%.

Reminder that the nanobrewery inside Ubrew is now open. Check website for hours.

Possibility of merging TC-HOPZ and NMHG. TC-HOPS has several hundred dollars in its account and the treasurers want to throw one last party. Have them involved in the first quarterly party? Mitch Stuck reached out via email to the remaining TC-HOPZ members to see what they’d like to do, outlining several options.
